Eid-el-Kabir: Over 2,000 holidaymakers join ‘Imole’ free train ride to Osun

By Michel Ofulue, Osogbo

No fewer than 2,000 holidaymakers took advantage of the Imole Free Train Ride from Lagos to Osun State on Thursday, reuniting with family and loved ones ahead of the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The initiative, part of a public welfare package by the Osun State Government, was a clear demonstration of community support and responsive governance.

Our correspondent gathered that the train, which arrived at the Osogbo railway station around midnight, was welcomed with jubilation by friends, families and well-wishers.

Among those present to receive the passengers was Bunmi Jenyo, Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.

Speaking with journalists, Jenyo emphasised that the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on citizens during festive periods, while also providing a means to transport goods to their hometowns.

“When we noticed the rising number of interested passengers in Lagos, Governor Ademola Adeleke, gave immediate approval to add extra coaches. That decision underscores his deep commitment to the welfare of Osun indigenes,” Jenyo said.

He described the turnout as unprecedented and lauded Governor Adeleke for his continued investment in people-oriented policies.

Many passengers expressed their appreciation for the free train ride. Kabiru Mustapha, one of the travellers, shared his delight:

“This is my first time using the train. I was surprised at how smooth and organised everything was. I sincerely thank the Governor for this opportunity to celebrate Eid with my family without the usual financial stress.”

Other passengers also expressed gratitude and offered prayers for the Governor and the continued peace and prosperity of Osun State.
