Eid-el-Kabir: Southwest leader urges Tinubu, governors to honour electoral promises

The Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Chief Khamis Tunde Badmus, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and state governors across the Southwest geopolitical zone to intensify efforts toward fulfilling their electoral promises to the people.
Speaking shortly after observing the two-rakat Eid prayer at the Osogbo Central Eid Ground on Friday, Badmus said the essence of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration is deeply rooted in the fulfillment of promises, drawing inspiration from Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience to the will of God.
According to him, “The message of the Eid we are celebrating today centres around fulfilling promises. If you make promises to God or to anyone, you must strive to fulfil them. When you do, the rewards are multiplied many times over.”
The Islamic leader, who stressed the critical role of trust and responsibility in leadership, maintained that while it may be human to falter in certain instances, it is imperative that elected public office holders at all levels—local, state and federal—stay committed to the pledges they made to the electorate.
“We know that sometimes fulfilling promises can be difficult, but like Prophet Ibrahim, our public officials should not be deterred by barriers. They must remain committed to turning their electoral pledges into reality,” he said.
Chief Badmus further noted that the removal of fuel subsidy has resulted in significant increases in revenue allocations to all tiers of government, insisting that this development must translate into meaningful impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
“Fuel subsidy removal has ensured a tremendous increase in allocations to states and local governments. This should bring succour and relief to the people. To this end, the President, governors, and all public office holders must do everything possible to fulfil their promises,” he stated.
He emphasised that the moment calls for deliberate action from leaders, not only in honouring their mandates but also in reflecting the spirit of sacrifice and responsibility that defines the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
