Ekiti 2022 : Focus on security, poverty eradication, expert urges politicians

Ahead of the gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, slated to hold in June 2022, an expert from the Institute of Peace, Security and Governance, Dr Mike Omilusi, has admonished politicians to embark on programmes that will tackle the menace of security and poverty among the residents of the state.
Omilusi who is also a Lecturer in Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) revealed that the electorates would only vote for any representative based on the personalities of the candidates and not for political parties during the election.
The University Don, spoke in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend while delivery a lecture during a public lecture and official declaration of Mr. Wale Aribisala as a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
Speaking on the lecture entitled: “Harnessing Social Capital for Development and Good Governance in Ekiti” Omilusi described essence of governance as a common good and advancement of the society.
The University Teacher described security as the primary responsibility of a government, argued that no single development could be achieved without adequate security.
Lamenting over what he described as high rate of insecurity in the country, the lecturer suggested the need for decentralization of security apparatus of the country and call for the introduction of state police, the moves which he said would further checkmate the menace of insecurity in the country.
Speaking earlier, the gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the PDP and former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Wale Aribisala, promised to deliver if given chance in 2022.
On the agitations by some politicians on the direct and indirect primaries, the former lawmaker disclosed that he supported the agitations by the teeming populace and urged the party faithful not to submit themselves to be intimidated and deceive by the those politicians he called selfish.
Similarly, in a message at the occasion, the Chairman, Organizing Committee and Director General of the Campaign Organisation, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo, urges members of the party not to allow themselves to be deceived and vote for the candidate of their choice during the January 28, 2022 primary election
