….urges members to embrace peace
By Precious Owolabi, Ado-Ekiti
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday, urged his supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace unity and peace ahead of the June 20, 2026, governorship election in the state.
Oyebanji made the call in Ado-Ekiti while addressing supporters during an event held to mark the third anniversary of his administration.
He noted that the interest shown by other party members in the APC governorship ticket was a normal part of internal democracy.
Describing the race for the party’s ticket as a “family contest,” the governor emphasised that there was “no victor, no loser” following the resolution of the primary process.
Recall that four members of the APC, Governor Oyebanji, Kayode Ojo, Abimbola Olawumi, and Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo had expressed interest in the party’s ticket.
The APC National Working Committee had cleared Oyebanji and Omolayo to participate in the primary election scheduled for October 27, while Ojo and Olawumi were disqualified.
However, the party later announced Omolayo’s withdrawal from the contest, paving the way for Oyebanji to emerge as the consensus candidate for the primary.
In his remarks, Oyebanji appealed to party members to avoid divisive behaviour and refrain from making derogatory comments about fellow aspirants.
He said: “As we move towards the primary election, let me assure our party members that the party is one. There is no winner and no loser. I don’t want abusive songs or anyone to be insulted.
“All of us desire to serve the people of Ekiti State. It is not a crime to be ambitious. Every right-thinking Ekiti citizen has the right to aspire to the office of governor. But it is God who puts one in power.
“So, nobody has lost in this contest, we have all won. I plead with all our members to maintain peace and unity.
“I hold no grudge against anyone, because this is a family contest. Once it is resolved, we must come together to move the party forward.”
