Ekiti attack: Police begins probe

Following the Tuesday attack on the Ilejemeje Council Secretariat, Eda-Oniyo community, Ekiti State, the State Police command has disclosed that it has commenced a thorough investigations and probe into the alleged attack.

Recall that the secretariat of Ilejemeje local government area of Ekiti State was on Tuesday attacked by yet-to-be identified  hoodlums from Obbo-Ayegunle, a neighbouring town in Kwara State, over  land dispute between the two communities.

During the attack which lasted for several minutes, some officials of the local government were assaulted and  injured.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Sunday Abutu, the police in the state have commenced full investigation into the matter.

He explained that during the investigation, the police would probe the alleged attacks of residents on their farmland and also the vehicles and other valuable property of the council area allegedly destroyed by the suspected hoodlums.

“The Ekiti State Police Command will intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and bring the perpetrators to book.

“The police will not leave any stone unturned will not hesitate to arrest or extend invitations to any person or groups fingered in the attack.”

He explained that the Command had sent its officers to the area apparently to maintain law and order and to ensure that the situation was put under control and  forestall a reprisal.

Abutu stated:“Upon receiving the information concerning the attack, we swiftly dispatched our team to the scene. The situation has been resolved, and calm has been restored.

“Investigation into the incident has commenced as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeniran Akinwale, to fish out the perpetrators.”
