A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a minor.

The defendant, Sunday Olaniyi, was alleged to have raped an underaged girl in Omuo-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti East local government area of Ekiti State.

According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, the defendant committed the offence between April and June, this year, in Araromi, Omuo-Ekiti.

Adeniyi alleged that the defendant, who is a neighbour of the victim, caught her stealing meat from another neighbour’s pot and threatened to expose her unless she agreed to have sex with him.

He said the victim did not accept the condition until the defendant raped her in the process.

The prosecutor urged the court to give him time to present his witnesses.

He urged the court to remand the defendant pending the issuance of advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending advice from the ministry.

He adjourned the case till August 7, for mention.
