The Ekiti Council of Elders have urged the Federal Government to find a way to mitigating the unbearable hardship the citizenry are currently undergoing in respect of the new naira redesign.
The council in a release at the end of its monthly congress held in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend and signed by its Chairman, Prof Joseph Oluwasanmi and its General Secretary, Elder Niyi Ajibulu, cautioned against the discordant tunes from different government authorities on the lingering currency swap and fuel shortages, described it as an ill wind blowing the masses no good.
The senior citizens urged the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency put its acts together towards mitigating the unbearable hardship the Nigerian citizens are currently facing.
The Elders Statemen considered that Nigerians are resilient, displaying understanding and faith in the on going political dispensation. It however advised that their patience should not be stretched to a snaping level that may result into total breakdown of laws and orders.
“Unfortunately, some pockets of violent protests resulting into loss of innocent lives and properties had occurred in some parts of the Ccuntry.
“The Council of Elders is appealing for more understanding on the part of the populace while the government is putting machineries in place to bring succour on the currency and petroleum problems.
“As Nigerians are eagerly looking forward to the fast approaching polls, the Council of Elders admonished the government to ensure that the processes are not in any way truncated under any guise what-so-ever for the survival of the country”
On the home front, the Council appreciated the philanthropic spirit of Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN who donated a complex, completed with fittings and amenities to the Ikere-Ekiti High Court to aid justice delivery processes in Ekiti State
It equally praised other Ekiti sons and daughters who have been contributing to the progress and growth of the State in various ways an admonished all to always consider how they can impact individually or in groups on the betterment of the state.
