Ekiti First Lady reaffirms support for widows, elderly

By Precious Owolabi, Ado-Ekiti

The First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, has reiterated her unwavering commitment to the welfare of widows and the elderly across the state through various humanitarian initiatives championed by her office.

Speaking during a community outreach held in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Dr Oyebanji distributed food items and cash gifts to hundreds of widows and aged residents in memory of her late mother-in-law, Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji.

Describing Mama Esther as a woman who deeply understood the plight of vulnerable groups, the First Lady said she had firsthand experience of hardship and believed strongly in uplifting others—particularly women—through acts of kindness and encouragement.

“This empowerment programme is our heartfelt tribute to her legacy of compassion and care,” Dr Oyebanji said. “Today, we empower these courageous widows in her honour.”

While addressing the beneficiaries, she reassured them of their relevance in society. “You are not forgotten. You are seen, valued and deeply cherished. As you receive this support today, may it rekindle hope, inspire resilience and open new doors of opportunity for you and your families,” she added.

Reflecting on Mama Esther’s life, the First Lady described her as a pillar of strength, a woman of quiet wisdom and a fountain of love and kindness. “She lived a life marked by compassion and generosity—living simply, but giving abundantly. Her comforting words, helping hands and fervent prayers carried many through their darkest moments.”

The event served not only as a gesture of support but also as a solemn celebration of a woman whose enduring legacy continues to inspire acts of kindness across the state.
