Ekiti introduces agric and entrepreneurship in schools

The management of African Church Comprehensive High School, Ikere-Ekiti has concluded plan to partner with a United States of America-based organisation to reintroduce some organic agricultural and skills acquisition projects in the school.

According to the school, some of the agricultural system set to be resuscitated by the school include, bee keeping, fishery, piggery, poultry and hydroponic farm projects among others.

Other entrepreneurship projects set to embark upon by the school are, barbing, cobbler, electrical/electronics, auto mechanic, bakery, printing and photography.

An ace broadcaster and Newscaster with Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC) who also doubled as the National President of the Old Students Association of the school, Mr. Yomi Alatise, dropped the hint during a press conference addressed by the body to herald the beginning of the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the school.

Alatise, who recalled that the school was food basket of the nation in the olden days, as it was noted for it’s agricultural revolution in the 70’s, the move which he said has made the school to occupy number one position within Ondo and Ekiti states and the country at large.

He described the issued as worrisome to members of the association as well as students of the school, appealling that Ekiti state government should assist the school to secure the land from those in  fencing the school, saying the development would not only guarantee protection for the boarding students in the school, protect further encroachers.

While appreciating the present administration in Ekiti state for what he described as its giant stride in the development of education in the state, Alatise reiterated the readiness of his members to continue to complement the efforts of the government in bringing back loss glory of the school.

“We produced our own food to feed the school population and sold to other neighbouring schools in those days, we appealled to Ekiti State Government to assist us in resuscitating some of our legacy which is agriculture. We equally want to beg the government to introduce functional education as we had in our days to all schools in Ekiti state” he stated.
