Ekiti monarch charges Fayemi on community projects

The newly enthroned Owa-Ooro of Agbado Ekiti, Oba Adesina Obafemi, has urged the governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to always consult community leaders before executing project in the community so that only people’s oriented projects will be executed.

The monarch who made the plea in an interview with The Hope also appealed to the governor to consider his community in terms of developmental projects in his administration.

The traditional ruler who was enthroned last month ,described Fayemi as an energetic governor, who has shown readiness to perform more than his first time in office.

Speaking on the role of the traditional rulers in politics, the monarch discouraged their full participation, describing them as fathers who should just act like umpires.

He added that monarchs can correct the mistakes of the political leaders and mediate in political crises so that the society can move forward.

 The monarch who condemned some painful traditions like tribal mark, however, said that some traditions like festivals shouldn’t be eradicated in the guise of practicing foreign religions.

He noted that customs and traditions are not idol worshipping but values, adding that the best way to practice religion is to preach the love of God and demonstrate it in our dealings with neighbors.

Oba Obafemi assured the people of his community of tremendous development both human and infrastructure during his reign and demonstration of a good leadership.

He further averred that all disputes among his people will be settled in a traditional way rather than always bothering government with communal crises.

On the forthcoming general elections, the Owa-Ooro advised the political leaders to give room for peace and desist from turning elections to a do or die affairs.

According to him, electorates should avoid running after monetary gain by selling their votes, and to rather maintain values and integrity.

“When you have value, even if these politicians are starving you, you will still maintain your value. The core values of Nigeria are being eroded and that is why we worship money”. He said.
