Members of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Ekiti State Council have lamented over their unpaid gratuities, pensions by the Ekiti State Government.
They spoke in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday through State Chairman, Comrade Joel Akinola, while briefing Journalists the N40b was inherited from the immediate past administration in the State under the leadership of Dr Kayode Fayemi.
He said the huge unpaid allowances has led to the death of some of his members, while waiting for their gratuities and other emoluments.
The Ekiti NUP chair explained that the payment of the gratuity by the State Government has been inconsistent, since 2013 making the arrears to pile up to over N40 billion.
He commended the present administration in the State under the leadership of Mr Biodun Oyebanji for the payment of four months arrears of local government and the recent payment of N700m as gratuity to the state pensioners.
While paying a glowing tribute to the governor, he also expressed optimism that the governor on assumption of office has promised that gratuities of pensioners would be accorded utmost priority, by his administration y.
