The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), in Ekiti State, Bisi Kolawole, has said he has not resigned his position despite the fact that he is contesting for the 2022 governorship seat on the platform of the party.
Contrary to the rumour milling rounds ,Kolawole clarified that he is still in charge of the PDP in the state and that he would resign at the appropriate time as stipulated by the laws.
Kolawole gave the clarification in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, during a telephone chat with newsmen.
Kolawole was anointed by former Governor Ayodele Fayose few months ago as his preferred governorship candidate, the development that has polarised the party into two factions.
A faction of the party led by former Deputy Governor and Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District as well as Senator Duro Faseyi under the acronym ‘PDP repositioning Movement’, had also adopted one Lateef Ajijola as its anointed candidate.
The PDP chairman, who lambasted those spreading the rumour , submitted that nobody can browbeat him to relinquish power just because he was seeking the governorship seat .
He said: “This thing was a mere rumour and I don’t really know why some people are unnecessarily agitated over nothing.
“What is their interest in my resignation? What would be their gains if I decide to quit now? This really showed that some people are afraid of my towering political stature.
“I am not an illiterate . I understand the PDP’s constitution and what it stipulated and when it is time for me to resign, I will do so willingly.
“The PDP’s constitution is very clear about how someone holding my position and seeking other elective positions should resign and that I shall abide by without blinking and eyelid when it is time.
“But let me say this, I have not resigned and am still in charge of the party. I will quit at the right time without breaching the constitution of our great party”, he said.
