Ekiti police arrest 12 for vandalising transformers, stealing cables

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects for vandalising electric cables and transformers across the state.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the arrests followed a coordinated manhunt by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in collaboration with non-state actors.
The crackdown targeted criminal hideouts within and outside Ado-Ekiti, leading to the arrests on February 21, 2025 at approximately 1:30 pm.
The suspects, identified as Kabiru Abubakar 20; Kamarudeen Adekunle 38; Sukurana Amodu 26; Atiku Abubakar 24; Ibrahim Milasi 26; Jafaru Iliasu 24; Nasiru Yahuza 25, Muhammadu Aminu 25; Isah Zaiyanu 32; Abubakar Rabiu 21; Ibrahim Rasaq 27; and Yusuf Usman 25 have all confessed to the crimes.
Items recovered from them include rolls of armoured cables, recline cables, aluminium conductors, a transformer feeder pillar, binding wires, electrical cables, and generator parts.
The police confirmed that the suspects would be arraigned in court soon.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, warned criminals to desist from unlawful activities, stating that law enforcement would continue to crack down on crime in the state.
