Ekiti police arrest 5 armed robbers, Indian hemp dealers

Ekiti State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of a five-members of a robbery gang who has been terrorising the state for sometime.
The police also said it has arrested some suspects believed to be India hemp dealers in the state.
Mr. Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, said the suspects were nabbed during the operation which was jointly carried out by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RSS) and men of the Western Security Network (WSN) codenamed Amotekun Corps.
He said during the operation which lasted for several hours, firearms, dangerous weapons, ammunitions as well as assorted charms were recovered from the suspected robbery gang.
According to him, the suspects who are currently in the custody of the police in the state were arrested along Uso road in Ise-Ekiti in Ise/Orun local government area of Ekiti State.
He said one Monday Reuben, was in possession of a locally made pistol and two live cartridges.
The police image maker said during interrogations, Monday Reuben confessed that he is an India hemp dealer who engages in cultivation of weeds at Ise-Ekiti forest and other nefarious activities in the area.
Other four suspects mentioned by the PPRO as members of the robbery group in the area were, ThankGod Samuel, Ogenetega Lucky, Wisdom David and Samuel Imeh.
He said all the suspects were arrested in the forest, while items recovered from them are; one locally made single barrel gun, four cartridges, large quantity of seeds and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
Abutu said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Dare Ogundare has assured members of the public that all the arrested suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of investigation.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to puncturing the activities of criminal elements in the state which he stated are mostly caused by heavy intake of narcotics and other illicit drugs.
He equally implored residents to always volunteer useful information that could assist the Police to apprehend criminal suspects in the state.
