Ekiti Police arrest Farmers-herders Peace C’ttee member for kidnapping

Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two persons described as notorious kidnap kingpins terrorising the State.
The suspects; Alhaji Abashe Adamu and Ibrahim Mumini, were herders said to have been arrested in Ido-Ekiti, Ido/Osin local government area by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS)
It was reported that Abashe who was the leader of the gang was one of those inaugurated as members of the farmers-herders Peace Committee by the Ekiti State Government on January 21, 2021.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ekiti State Commandant, Mr Sunday Abutu, said the duo allegedly coordinated numerous high profile kidnapping in the State, including the recent kidnapping of one Adeeko Ademola and Nasiru Salisu at Adamsy Sawmill, Aisegba-Ekiti, Gbonyin local government area.
He explained that one of the kidnapped victims, Salisu was killed by the suspects, before his remains were discovered few days later by the inhabitants of the area.
The PPRO said the Command’s Rapid Response Squad ( RRS) had worked in synergy with the vigilantes, after acting on intelligence before the suspects were arrested.
Similarly, a source close to the police in the State confirmed that during interrogation, Ibrahim Mumini, confessed to the commission of the crime and claimed that the kidnapping and murder of one of the two victims in Aisẹgba-Ekiti were carried out by himself and four others who are children of Alhaji Abashe Adamu currently at large.
The source further said confessed that Alhaji Abashe Adamu is their kingpin, adding that the ransom collected from their victims was used to purchase cattle by Alhaji Abashe Adamu to increase his herd of cattle.
While Ibrahim Mumini disclosed that his own share of the ransom allegedly paid was used to purchase cattle for him by Alhaji Abashe Adamu.
The PPRO further disclosed that other suspects who are currently on the wanted list of the police would be arrest and investigate.
While those the who are currently in the custody were still undergoing interrogation and will be arraigned as soon as investigation is concluded on the matter.
