Ekiti police arrest suspected robbers

Police officers attached to Special Ant-Robbery Squad (SARS)  Ekiti state police command, has arrested some groups of robbers terrorising the state.

According to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Azukwo Amba, the suspects Oyindamola Fadairo 24,  Sunday Adegboye, 30, Olatunde Ekundayo 32, and Odunayo Ogunmuyi  25 were arrested by the operatives of the command following a distress call made by a good Samaritan in Ado-Ekiti.

He disclosed that one of the suspects, Olatunde Ekundayo, was said to be a notorious robber and had be on the wanted list of the police for some time before he was recently arrested.

The police boss explained that on the fateful day, Olatunde and his gang had attacked a victim at his barbing saloon and robbed him of five mobile phones and other valuables.

He added that the suspect made confessional statements to the commission of the crime and mentioned other members of his associate who were later arrested in various parts of the community.

He said the suspects also confessed to have also robbed some occupants of all buildings located opposite Ekute Primary school, Ekute area of Ado-Ekiti.

The commissioner said during execution of search warrant in the house of the arrested suspects, the police recovered one locally made pistol, one single barrel gun,  assorted criminal charms, nine live cartridges of ammunition and a quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp among others.

The police boss, who reiterated the readiness of his men to continue to safeguard the lives and property of the people of the state,  solicited the support of the people of the state by giving useful information to the police.

Tragedy struck at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife, at the weekend as a 300 level Microbiology student, Omotola Akorede Kayode suddenly slumped and died while playing football with his colleagues.

The Hope Metro gathered that the incident happened during a football match between new students (freshers) and other students of the institution.

A release by the OAU Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the student was playing football with his colleagues when he suddenly slumped.

According to Olanrewaju, the deceased was subsequently rushed to the OAU’s Health Centre where he was confirmed dead on arrival. He added that all measures to resuscitate him proved abortive

“The management hereby commiserate with the parents, family, classmates, colleagues and the entire University Community over this irreparable loss.” And may the good Lord grants us all the fortitude to bear the loss”, the statement added.
