Ekiti police arrest two robbers for attacking students

Men of the Ekiti State Police Command  have arrested two notorious armed robbers, who specialise in attacking students’ hostel in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu, the suspects are Akinbo Abayomi and Shodipe David.

He said they were arrested by the command operatives along Ado/Iworoko-Ekiti road during a routine  exercise in the area.

Abutu said though the two suspects arrested had be on the wanted list of the police since March 2022.

He added that on March 15, this year,  the suspects, while armed with dangerous weapons such as gun, axe, and cutlasses, attacked the students residing at Recilian Hostel located at Iworoko-Ekiti.

Abutu said during the attack, the suspects inflicted varying degrees of injuries on the students, after the windows and gate of the hostel were badly damaged by the suspected robbers to gain entrance.

He added that the duo, who are currently detained in the custody of the police are still helping the police to arrest other members of the gang.

Abutu said the suspects have made confessional statements that they were students of a public school in the state and also members of the supreme “Black Axe” Confraternity.

He said when their houses were searched, one camouflage cap with Pirate Secret cult insignia were recovered.

He added that efforts were ongoing to arraign the suspects in court as soon as investigations were completed on their matters.
