The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr Asuquo Amba has issued warning to commercial motorcycle operators who use face masks while performing their daily activities in the state to desist from such act.

The Ekiti state police helmsman who banned the use of mask by the commercial motorcycle operators popularly called ‘okada riders’ warned that anybody caught would be arrested by the police and prosecuted at the court of law.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, Amba said most of the users of such mask had been identified to be perpetrators of nefarious activities in the state in recent time.

The statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Caleb Ikechukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said: “the CP has declared zero tolerance on the use of face mask and covering of the face by okada riders and Motorcycle operators, not only in Ado-Ekiti, but the entire towns in the State.

“Through intelligence gathering, it has been brought to the notice of the police command that some person(s) who engage in okada riding with the use of face mask to cover their faces now carry out nefarious crimes.

“However, in order not to be caught, they employ the use of face mask to hide their identities.

“Due to much complaints received from the general public as regard the use of face mask by these okada riders to commit crime, the command warns that henceforth, with effect from February 11, 2019, “anyone caught violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

“Only medically approved nose mask and helmet is allowed for use, the statement added.

 The CP said the command appreciates Governor Kayode Fayemi for his proactive action on security matters, saying this has made Ekiti safer for habitation and business activities.
