Ekiti suspends principal for violating facility use policy

By Victor Akinkuolie, Ado-Ekiti

Principal of Ekiti Baptist High School, Igede Ekiti, Mrs. Veronica Yemisi Ilesanmi has been suspended indefinitely for releasing the school’s play ground for a social event.

A statement from the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr Michael Boluwade said the principal was sanctioned for allowing the use of the school facility in flagrant disregard for the State Government’s policy guidelines contained in the circular with Reference Number EK/ED/AD/398/155 of  August 12,  2024.

According to the statement, the said circular prohibits the use of facilities in public schools in Ekiti State for any social engagement.

Mrs. Ilesanmi was therefore directed to hand over all the school’s property in her possession to the most senior Vice Principal of the school, adding that she must not visit the school premises during the period of her suspension.

Meanwhile, the move has generated reactions among residents of the state who described the reactions of the government as harsh.

The development also brought a major setback to some communities at the weekend who had earlier secured the permission of some schools to hold their annual day celebration.

The move made some towns to change the venue of their ceremonies to other venues.
