Ekiti State Government has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teaching and non-teaching staff into public secondary schools across the state.
Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, described the recruitment as a continuous exercise aimed at filling vacancies created by resignations, retirements, and the increasing trend of workers leaving the public service due to the ‘japa’ syndrome.
He disclosed that about 170 teaching staff would be exiting the public service before the end of the year, stressing that a structured recruitment process was essential to prevent staff shortages and their negative impact on the education sector.
Providing a breakdown, Olatunbosun revealed that 1,600 teaching positions would be filled, comprising 1,066 degree holders and 534 National Certificate of Education (NCE) holders, alongside 200 non-teaching staff.
He assured that the recruitment process would be strictly merit-based, with successful candidates deployed to 192 public secondary schools, particularly in remote and underserved areas of the state.
