Ekiti to recruit more doctors, upgrade hospitals

By Precious Owolabi, Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced plans to recruit more doctors and health workers to address staff shortages in government hospitals.

The initiative includes improved welfare packages and the renovation of primary healthcare centres in all 177 wards across the state.

During a statewide inspection of hospital and road projects, Oyebanji revealed that the state government, in collaboration with the Ekiti Caucus in the National Assembly, will fund the salaries of newly hired medical professionals for one year.

He assured that the recruitment process would begin soon, ensuring that all general hospitals in the state have adequate medical staff before the end of the year.

The Governor emphasised that these efforts aim to enhance healthcare delivery and optimise the use of modern medical equipment.

He urged residents to take advantage of the upgraded hospitals, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accessible and quality healthcare.

Oyebanji also inspected ongoing rural road projects under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), expressing satisfaction with the progress.

He noted that over 1,000 kilometres of rural roads are being constructed to improve transportation and economic activities.

Ekiti’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, commended the Governor’s dedication to improving healthcare services.

Traditional rulers from various communities also praised the administration’s efforts in upgrading critical infrastructure.

Projects inspected included the Are-Oye road, the Ilupeju–Ayede road, and several general hospitals across the state.
