Ekiti tribunal receives 5 petitions

The election petitions tribunal in Ekiti State has confirmed the receipt of five petitions from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP’s) National Assembly candidates.
The Secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Ejike Nwana, who confirmed this to our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend said the figure comprised two petitions for senatorial election and three petitions for the House of Representatives election.
Nwana explained that in all the five petitions, the PDP candidates are challenging the declaration by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of All Progressives Congress Party (APC) candidates as winners in the elections.
He said the Senate Minority Whip and PDP candidate for Ekiti South Senatorial District, Biodun Olujimi, alongside her party, in petition number NA/Legh/EK/EPT/4/19 filed on March 15, 2019 is challenging INEC, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye and the APC, saying Adeyeye “was not duly elected by the majority of votes cast in the election”.
Olujimi also averred that Adeyeye’s election “was invalid and unlawful by reason of substantial non-compliance with the provision of the Electoral Act (as amended) as well as INEC 2019 general elections guidelines and manual”.
Also, filed by Senator Duro Faseyi, sitting senator and PDP candidate for Ekiti North Senatorial District, alongside his party also filed a petition, number NA/Legh/EK/EPT/3/19 on March 13, 2019 to challenge the victory of APC candidate, Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi, saying he was not validly elected.
In the House of Representatives petitions, the PDP candidate for Ekiti North II Federal Constituency, Omosola Omotoso, in a petition number NA/Legh/EK/EPT/1/19 filed on March 13, 2019, is challenging the victory of APC candidate, Olanrewaju Ibrahim, saying “he was not duly elected by the majority of votes cast”.
Also, House of Representatives member and PDP candidate for Ekiti North I Federal Constituency, Kehinde Agboola, in petition number NA/Legh/EK/EPT/2/19 filed on March 13, 2019, against the declaration of Peter Owolabi of APC as winner of election in the constituency, stating that Owolabi was not duly elected.
House of Representatives member and PDP candidate for Ekiti South II Federal Constituency, Segun Adekola, is also, in petition number NA/Legh/EK/EPT/5/19, filed on March 16, 2019, challenging the declaration of Mr Yemi Adaramodu of the APC as winner of the election.
