Ekiti warns contractors against substandard materials

By Precious Owolabi, Ado-Ekiti

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, Mr Sola Adebayo, has cautioned contractors handling road projects in the state against using substandard materials.

During an inspection tour of ongoing road projects, Adebayo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering durable and high-quality road infrastructure for the benefit of residents.

He stressed the need for contractors to strictly adhere to approved specifications and standards to ensure the longevity of roads under construction.

The Commissioner also urged contractors to engage root pickers as part of the site preparation process, noting that proper clearing of vegetation and removal of plant roots along road courses and shoulders were essential for establishing a solid foundation for road construction.

He assured that the Ministry remained dedicated to strict supervision and quality assurance in all road projects to actualise the present administration’s vision of a well-connected and sustainable road network.

The monitoring exercise, led by Adebayo, covered inspections of the Ikere-Ise-Emure-Eporo Road, Ikere-Ilawe Road, Ikere-Igbara Odo Road project, and the Ikogosi Township Road project.

Also, the Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Ministry of Works, Mr Titilope Ganiyu, has called on contractors handling various road projects across the state to take full advantage of the dry season to speed up work on their respective sites.

Mr Ganiyu gave the advice during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects, stressing the need to utilise favourable weather conditions for faster construction and timely completion.

He noted that the dry season provides ideal conditions for roadwork, allowing for smoother operations and better quality outcomes.
