EKSU expelled 12 in four years — VC

The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), Professor Edward Olanipekun, has confirmed that in the last four years since he took over the leadership of the institution, the management has expelled a total of 12 students.

Olanipekun, a Professor of Industrial Chemistry, also disclosed that a total of 10 appointments have been terminated, while three are currently under suspension.

He explained that a total of 30 students have been suspended from the institution, while 7 others were exonerated from various cases that occurred in the university.

The Vice-Chancellor made the disclosure during a press conference in Ado-Ekiti to herald the 28th convocation ceremony of the institution.

The University helmsman explained that the school management had consistently given adequate attention to the welfare of staff and students, including the periodical confirmation of staff appointments.

Giving a breakdown of the convocation, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that no fewer than 91 students would graduate with first-class honors during the convocation ceremony slated to begin from Monday, March 25th, to Thursday, April 4th, 2024.

He explained that the graduates are from the 2023-2024 sets and are among the 10,515 graduates to be awarded various degrees by the university.

He added that a total of 73 students would earn Doctorates, 81 Masters, while only one person will be graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma during the convocation.

Olanipekun explained that 70 out of 89 regular academic programs offered by the University have full accreditation by the National University Commission (NUC), while 8 programs have interim accreditation.

The VC disclosed that all professional programs offered by the institution have full accreditation by the professional bodies.

Ọlanipekun particularly thanked the governor of the State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for providing an enabling environment for the institution to thrive in all areas of development, including academic activities.

During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that as part of the activities of the ceremony, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, will be conferred with an honorary doctorate degree.

Others mentioned by the EKSU Vice-Chancellor are former Governor of Ekiti State, Orunba Adeniyi Adebayo, a former Minister for Health, Prince Julius Adeniyi, and Princess Folorunsho Alakija, a businesswoman, among others.
