Barely 24 hours after its inauguration, the Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has suspended the activities of the Students’ Union, Faculties and Departmental Associations in the institution.

The Governing Council, in a statement at its inaugural meeting held on the institution’s campus, said it took the decision following the protest embarked upon by the students on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

The council described the protest as unnecessary, untoward and inimical to peaceful academic activities at the University.

Similarly, in a statement by the Head of the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs in the University, Mr. Bode Olofinmuagun, the students are warned that no group of students should parade themselves as executives or representatives of the student body.

“Accordingly, all Executives of the Students’Students’ Union as well as the Faculty and Departmental Associations are hereby directed to hand over all union/ association’s property in their possession to the Dean of Students’ Affairs on or before Friday, April 14, 2023,”  he directed.
