Staff of the Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company Limited (EKSWSC) have been charged to develop and promote the right attitude that will enhance effective service delivery at work, to customers, and in their daily lives.
The Managing Director of the organisation, Mr. Oluwole Afolabi, who gave the charge during a two-day training programme organised for staff in Ado-Ekiti emphasised that maintaining a positive attitude and practising ethical conduct are crucial to improving performance and achieving remarkable success.
According to him, the right attitude impacts actions of staff positively, makes them relevant and promotes teamwork that brings out the best, even in challenging situations.
The MD urged staff to apply the lessons learnt during the training to their day-to-day activities, particularly in their interactions with customers.
Afolabi who stressed that attitude is a major determinant of productivity and success in life, encouraged the staff to always attend to customers with dignity and ethical conduct, adding that providing access to potable water is not a favour, but a right every consumer deserves.
Delivering a lecture at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Olusola Omolayo, defined attitude as a mental state that influences an individual’s behaviour and actions.
He identified the two categories of attitude to include the healthy (positive, realistic, resilient, open-minded, empathetic and growth-oriented) attitude and the toxic (negative, cynical, resentful, close-minded, self-centred and fixed-minded attitude.
The Permanent Secretary noted that a healthy attitude promotes personal growth, professional success, organisational effectiveness, social change and resilience, while a toxic attitude leads to strained relationships, poor mental health and missed opportunities.
He, therefore, charged participants to cultivate a healthy attitude that can help them succeed in life and connect them with their helpers of destiny.
In his presentation on Ethical Conduct, the Director of Budget, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Sola Adeoye, described ethics as the moral principles, values and standards guiding behaviour within an organisation.
He outlined the key components of ethical conduct to include integrity, accountability, excellence, professionalism, responsibility, transparency, objectivity, openness and exemplary leadership.
Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Civil Engineering of the company, Engr. Abiodun Alabi, noted that the essential service rendered by the Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company cannot be underrated since “water is life.”
He emphasised the need for staff to treat consumers with respect and professionalism, in line with ethical standards that foster customer trust and ensure quality service delivery.
In his remarks, the Programme Coordinator of the SURWASH Programme in Ekiti State, Engr. Steven Adewumi, urged participants to properly utilise the lessons acquired at the training to improve their behaviour, performance and service outcomes.
He encouraged them to continuously review and evaluate their performance for sustained improvement and better results.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the company, Mr. Temitope Agboola, one of the participants, expressed appreciation to the State Government for its continuous support and commended the Managing Director for providing the staff with an opportunity to participate in such an impactful training.
The Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company (EKWSC ) is a state-owned enterprise that took over the assets and liabilities of the defunct Ekiti State Water Corporation in 2021 as part of the State’s new Water, Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) policy and is responsible for the ownership, management, and maintenance of both water supply schemes and public sewerage systems in the state.
