The National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr. Olu Agunloye, has expressed optimism that the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, will strengthen the party and contribute to its development.

Speaking with our correspondent, Agunloye described El-Rufai’s move as proof that the SDP remains a formidable political force in Nigeria.

“El-Rufai is known for his dynamic leadership as the founder of Intercellular, his role as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), his tenure as a minister, and his time as Kaduna State Governor. His experience and political influence will add value to our party,” Agunloye stated.

He, however, stressed that the focus should not be on celebrating El-Rufai’s arrival but on understanding his agenda and contributions to the party.

“The key issue is not just welcoming him but what he brings to the table—his motives, programmes, and vision for the SDP. He must also disclose why he left the ruling party to join us. I suspect it is linked to 2027, as this is a season of alignments, alliances, and power
