Elections: Cleric tasks Nigerians on PVC collection

From Jimoh Ahmed, Owo

As the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, extends the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, Nigerians have been enjoined to get their voters card in order to vote in the February 25 elections.

The Chief Imam of Erushu Akoko, in Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, Alhaji Rasak Aliu made this call during Friday’s Jumat service.

Alhaji Aliu said this is the only way Nigerians can elect credible leaders.

According to the cleric, the call became imperative while considering the nonchalant attitudes of some Nigerians to elections because of frustration, poor economy and insecurity.

The Chief Imam said Nigerians have their destinies in their hands and so have the choice to vote for candidates of their choice without inducement or force.

“Nigerians, our destinies are in our hands, we have the choice to vote for the candidate of our choice, we have the choice to elect those whom we want to rule us without inducement or force”.

Alhaji Aliu condemned in strong terms, vote buying and selling, thuggery and rigging of elections, which he described as negative and unpatriotic attitudes against credible elections.

He commended the steps taken by Akeredolu’s administration to placate peace in Ikare Akoko, where communal clashes had affected the socio economic growth of the whole Akokoland.

He, therefore, called for fervent prayers for permanent peace to return to Ikare Akoko.
