‘Elite responsible for security challenges’

Nigeria elites have been identified as the brain behind the security challenges facing the country.
Chief of Staff to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Brigadier Jones Arogbofa (rtd.) declared this at a special lecture organized by the University of Ibadan, Alumni Association, Ondo State chapter
The lecture with the theme ‘Insecurity in our Nation: Challenges and Responsibilities of the Elite” was in honour of Basorun Seinde Arogbofa
He said the elite created the security challenges in the land but wanted it fixed overnight by the Security Agencies.
Represented by Major General Temidayo Olukoju (rtd.), Arogbofa observed that Insecurity in Nigeria was politically motivated.
He maintained that politicians use financial inducements and other nefarious means to garner votes from their constituencies during election and never return back to the same constituencies until next election period.
He added that the youths used by these elite to accomplish their political ambitions were abandoned after such elections, and such affected youths out of idleness, take to nefarious activities which culminated into the present state of insecurity in the country.
Arogbofa pointed out that a section of the Elite class drafted the Nigerian constitution and imposed it on all Nigerians. Arogbofa claimed that the Legislatures, who are expected to make Laws or amend the Constitution, have been a rubber stamp to the Executive arm of the Nigerian Government, merely go to the chamber to read Newspapers and discuss their personal emoluments.

On this ugly trend, he therefore challenged the elites to join hands with the Security Agencies in order to find lasting solution to the security challenges in the country. The Guest Lecturer also urged the elites to give the youths a sense of belonging and be close to the grass root.
He appealed to the National Assembly to make a new Constitution that would replace the 1999 Constitution towards addressing the present situation in our dear country. He called on each community to establish a Security Committee at the community level to support the Law Enforcement Agencies.
In his goodwill message, Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu promised his administration’s readiness to defend and protect the people of Ondo state.
Represented by the Secretary to this State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, Akeredolu reiterated the government’s commitment to security with the donation of Operational Vehicles to all the Security Agencies in the state recently.
Highlights of the special occasion was the presentation of Award and Honour to Distinguished Alumni and some notable Nigerians, among whom were; Pa Reuben Fasoranti the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Secretary to Ondo State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, Vice-Chancellor’ Adekunle Ajasin University, Prof Olugbenga I be the Rector of Rufus Giwa, Owo, Mr. Gain Ogundahunsi among others.
