In its efforts to reduce road carnages during the ember months, the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, Ikare Akoko Unit Command, has taken road safety enlightenment, sensitization and advocacy to churches, mosques, market places, motor parks and other public places in Akokoland.
In one of the events that took place at Emmanuel Anglican Church, Edo, Ikare Akoko, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the unit, Assistant Route Commander Taiwo Mohammed, admonished everyone to support and extend sympathy to the families of victims of road crashes so as to give succour to them.
Mohammed while stating some of the factors causing road accidents, said they include both human and mechanical such as bad tyres, defective horn, absence of rear mirror, leaking fuel leading to fire outbreak, excessive speeding and making calls and answering calls while driving.
In his speech, the Vicar of the church, Venerable Isaac Awowole, said the establishment of FRSC is the greatest thing that ever happened to road transportation industry in Nigeria
Awowole, therefore, gave kudos to the founding fathers of the FRSC, urging the Federal Government to continue to do more for the agency.
The cleric urged Nigerians, particularly road users, to cooperate with the FRSC and adhere strictly to road rules and regulations in order to reduce road carnages.
Awowole appealed to government, well-to-do Nigerians, corporate organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations to prioritise the welfare of accidents victims through rehabilitation, payment of hospital bills and provision of employment to sustain their living.
In a chat with newsmen, the Unit Commander, Mr Ropo Alabi said that regular advocacy to religious centres, markets and motor parks is regularly done in Akokoland.
He warned people against night journeys which he described as very dangerous.
