Ember months:  Police begin 24 -hours  patrol

Following the report of pockets of crimes  in most areas in Akure metropolis activities of night marauders the Ondo State Police Command, yesterday said it  has began a 24 -hour surveillance and patrol to check the menace.

To this end, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie, at a meeting with all the  Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in  metropolis charge them to commence intensive day and night surveillance and patrol in all the nooks and crannies of the state to arrest criminals operating in the area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph,  said the police boss has given orders and directives to DPOs covering divisions in Akure area to intensify efforts at curbing crimes especially burglary and stealing and ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.

His words, “We are aware of the situation at the moment, especially as we enter the ‘Ember’ months where activities of crime are always on the increase.

“The police Commissioner has met with his officers and has mapped out strategies necessary to curb crimes and possibly bring it to a tolerable level.

“I can confirm to you that CP Adie has met with officers which include: the Area Commanders and their DPOs on  issues bordering on security of lives and property of citizens of the state and he equally gave a marching order that aggressive day and night patrol has to be intensified”, Joseph said.

He, however, hinted that  the police will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property of all and sundry, before, during and after the ‘Ember months’, just as he disclosed that policemen on roads would continue  with their routine stop and search order.

The PPRO, who warned people with criminal intent to have a rethink, stressed that the state would be too hot for them to carry out their nefarious activities, assured law abiding citizens to continue to go about their lawful and legitimate duties unmolested.

The Hope Metro investigation revealed that some areas in Oke-Ogba, Shagari village, Oshinle, Isolo, Ijoka and host of other communities in Akure have been witnessing series of activities of hoodlum attacks mainly carried out at nights.

Some of the victims who reported their matter to various police divisions in Akure have accused the police of not doing enough to check activities of miscreants which they said it is on the increase.
