Nigerian women have been enjoined to embrace child spacing in order to reduce poverty and improve their health.

Wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu made this suggestion during the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day and launching of SOLAYO initiative in Ore, Odigbo Local Government area.

While advising the nursing mothers in the local government, Mrs Akeredolu maintained that the inability of Nigerian women to space their children and other related issues have contributed to national insecurity and poor economic state of the nation.

The First Lady who described female circumcision as barbaric, archaic and detrimental to the lives of women in the country advised parents to desist from such act.

She appealed to women to join politics because they are more important in the society, adding that they are fit in decision and law making chambers.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson, Odigbo Local Government, Mrs Rebecca Ikumawo who revealed that the SOLAYO kit idea of Mrs Akeredolu was the first in the State commended the First Lady for helping expectant mothers in the State to meet their delivery needs hence preparing them better for the delivery day.

” Findings had shown that most of the pregnant women cannot afford all the items needed for safe delivery, but with the SOLAYO kits given to them, the stress of getting money to buy delivery items have been solved.

A beneficiary, Mrs Busayo Obisesan  appreciated Mrs Akeredolu;s gestures.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Olufunke Fatumuroti who could not hide her joy described the SOLAYO kits given to her as timely. “Sincerely, I have been thinking of where to get money to buy all the listed delivery items needed. Though,  one may be saying  it is not much, but when you start calculating them one after the other, you will understand my concern especially with the economic situation in the country.
