The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III has again called on youths to embrace sports for economic development.
Oba Ogunoye made this call at the start of Owo-Made Under 17 Talent Discovery Football Competition held at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Sports Complex.
The Olowo who was represented at the occasion by his Special Assistant on Media, Samuel Adewale said sports has become a money spinner and youths can better the lot of themselves and their families rather than engage in cultism, internet fraud and other crimes which have sad endings.
Speaking from his base in London, the Chief Executive of Optimum Football Consultancy, the organisers of the competition, Prince Adeyemi Okunola Olagbegi, said his aim of starting the competition is to take youths off the streets and criminal activities.
Prince Olagbegi said those discovered at the competition will be taken to Europe to further their football career.
He disclosed that he will be establishing a modern football academy in Owo in earnest.
The competition which started to mainly fish out talents attracted football clubs from Owo and Ose Local governments.
At the opening match, Real FC of Ifon piped Super Strikers of Owo by a lone goal..
