A 32-year-old credit officer, Joseph Dinyo was yesterday docked before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Oke-Eda, Akure for allegedly stealing N1.1million belonging to his employer.
The defendant, who resides in Akure, is charged with theft.
The Police Prosecution, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence between January 2023 and May 2023 at Grace and Mercy Household Empowerment Initiative, situated in Akure.
Akintimehin alleged that the defendant being the credit officer of Grace and Mercy Household Empowerment Initiative, collected the sum of N1,182,950 from customers meant to be paid into the company’s account, which he refused to remit it.
The prosecutor said Dinyo obtained the money through his own account and converted it to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravenes Sections 388 and 390(6) of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Yemi Salau prayed the court to admit his client to bail in most liberal terms
Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunus admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 17 and 31 for hearing.
