Enact laws to improve sport at grassroots, VIO Director urges govt

The Director of Ondo State Vehicle Inspection Officers, Engineer Alaba Adeleye has called on government at all levels to enact a law that will improve sports activities at the grassroots.
He stated this at the 36th annual Inter House athletics competition of Omoluorogbo Grammar School, Akure, held at the school’s playing ground.
Adeleye, who was the chairman of the event, said government must revert to the old system where it is mandatory for all schools to have a playing field that accommodates sporting activities.
He added that “sport is a means of giving gainful employment to our teaming youths and a veritable tool to curb their excesses in the society.”
Adeleye therefore advised parents who are averse to sports to embrace it by encouraging their children to participate in sports, saying students must not continue to be spectators but partakers.
He revealed that the old students have agreed to link the exceptional students with the State Sports Council for grooming.
According to the Principal of the School, Mr Nelson Olatubi,” sports is important in children’s physical and mental development.
“The school has been in the forefront in both academic and sporting activities, our school’s giant stride in sports yielded result as one of our students, Jumoke Adeniyan represented Ondo State at the National Youths Games in Ilorin last year.”
He therefore called on government, old students and private individuals to come to the aid of the school in the area of rehabilitation of some buildings and donation of Sporting materials.
Meanwhile, White House has emerged overall winners of the Inter House sports with 243 points while Green House came second with 230 Points while Blue and Yellow Houses came 3rd and 4th with 206 and 196 points respectively.
In School Invitation Relay, Aquinas College Akure, came first in boys’ categories, Oyemekun Grammar School Akure second while Akure Muslims College came third .
In girls, Commercial Secondary School Akure, first, African Church Comprehensive High School, second, while Akure Muslims College went home with third prize.
