‘Encourage your children to acquire skills’
From Fisayo Akinduro, Osogbo
Parents and guardians have been urged to encourage their children to acquire entrepreneur skills during the holiday period.
An Educationists, Mr Aderemi Fadokun who disclosed this in Osogbo said learning is beyond classrooms and reading of books.
Fadokun while decrying the rate of unemployment among graduates in Nigeria said, parents should endeavour to make their children learn a trade when they are still young.
“As you can see, schools have started summer lessons and I believe this is the time for youngsters to learn a trade which will make them independent and employers of labour in the future.
“We cannot all rely on white collar jobs and what the government has to offer anymore, we must look for ways to help ourselves and contribute to the society through our involvement in skills acquisition.”
He said that secondary schools as a matter of urgency should add entrepreneur as a subject to the curriculum and make sure students develop interest in it.
He further said government should also continue to sensitise the public, most especially, youths on the need to diversify and also provide enabling means for them to achieve their goals.
He urged parents to discover their children’s talents and dreams and help them to achieve them.
Fadokun advised students to be focused and make good use of the holiday to develop themselves both in academics and skill acquisition.
