Ending hunger non-negotiable under Tinubu–FG

The Federal Government has strengthened its drive toward national food security with the flag-off of agricultural input distribution in Ekiti State.

It declared that the Zero Hunger target remains non-negotiable under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, who performed the ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, said the initiative forms part of an aggressive strategy to ease the burden of farmers, reverse food inflation and scale up agricultural productivity nationwide.

He stressed that food security is a core national priority and the administration will “do everything humanly possible” to ensure Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in food production.

Kyari explained that the support intervention is intentionally structured to ensure affordability and transparent access to essential farm inputs, enabling farmers to expand yields and strengthen livelihoods.

He noted that the Ministry has undertaken a comprehensive review of existing programmes, shifting focus toward high-impact solutions that stimulate production, create jobs and reduce the cost of living for citizens.

He added that the government’s approach combines bold economic reforms with humanitarian and emergency measures to cushion the current food pressure on households, while reinforcing long-term resilience across the agricultural value chain.

The minister reaffirmed that the Zero Hunger initiative sits directly within the Sustainable Development Goals and will remain central to Nigeria’s national planning.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, commended the President for repositioning the sector and expanding opportunities for rural agro-based enterprises.

Speaking on behalf of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Pastor Oni Olajide applauded the Federal Government’s intervention and called for accountability in the distribution process so that support reaches genuine farmers.

With more states expected to benefit from similar input rollouts in the coming weeks, the Federal Government says the message is clear: farmers must be empowered to produce more and Nigeria must never again depend on chance or seasons to feed its people.
