EndSARS: Ondo APC seeks N270m compensation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that property worth N270 million was lost at its Secretariat in Ondo state, which was burnt by hoodlums during the EndSARS protest in October, 2020.
The party disclosed this when it approached the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on Police Brutality in the state and Other Matters sitting in Akure for compensation.
Counsel to the APC, Akingbesote said, “Considering the valuation report prepared by the Estate Valuer and Surveyor, it’s about N270million.
Speaking with The Hope, the State Secretary of the APC, Mr Alaye Adesina disclosed that the burnt Secretariat had caused lots of setbacks to the party, imploring the panel to recommend appropriate compensation to the party.
Meanwhile, the legal representative of the Nigerian Police Force, Ondo state command has appeared made his first appearance before at the panel.
The counsel, Mr. Tolu Abisagbo, who will represent the Nigerian Police in all the cases filed against officers of the force however appealed to the Panel to give him time to study the various petitions against police officers in order to respond appropriately.
While assuring that the force would cooperate with the panel in order to discharge its fact finding assignment, Abisagbo however told The Hope that some of the cases were pending at the Appeal Court.
Sequel to his application for adjournment, the petitions filed by Reuben Owoeye, Engineer James Iwanefun, Queen Akarewan, Abdul Suleiman and others against the Nigerian Police officers were adjourned till January 28 to allow the legal counsel to the respondents to study the applications and respond appropriately.
The application filed by the Nigerian Postal Service, Okitipupa was closed after cross examination of the head of the agency, Ondo District, Chukwuemeka Udum.
Similarly, the application filed by the Ondo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism for compensation over vandalisation of its property in Akure during the EndSARS protest was closed yesterday after the panel visited the scene of the vandalisation.
The applications by the Aketi Campaign Office and Chief Adelami Campaign offices were adjourned till January 21and 19 respectively for regularisation of petition and hearing.
The petition filed by Inspector Adeolu Elumaro on the vandalisation of his property at Ore was adjourned till January 26 for the panel to visit the scene of the incident.
Justice Sidiq directed the counsel to the petitioner, David Nwokolo to regularise the petition before the adjourned date.
The next sitting of the panel is Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
