‘Engage retired health workers to combat pandemic’.

As the number of infected persons with coronavirus pandemic ravaging the country increases daily, a call has gone to all the tiers of government in the country to consider as a matter of urgency the recall of all willing retired medical workers to join hands with the existing serving officers to be able to combat the scourge.
Speaking with The Hope in Arigidi Akoko on the shortage of manpower in the health sector to cater for the rising number of patients with COVID-19.
Mrs Victoria Smart, a retired Deputy Coordinator of Primary Health Care, Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State counseled government to reabsorb retired medical workers on contract to complement the serving ones in efforts to reduce the spread of the disease.
Mrs Smart was worried about community transmission which was brought about by ignorance, particularly in the rural area where many are not seriously abiding by government directives.
Another retired medical personnel, Mrs Comfort Rotimi urged government to urgently recruit medical workers or call back the capable and willing retired officials to reduce the high rate of lack of inadequate health workers in Nigeria.
Mrs Rotimi, a retired Chief Nursing Officer also commended the initiative of government since the outbreak of coronavirus.
The duo laid emphasis on World Health Organization and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, directives which Nigerians should obey always for them to stay safe.
