An Engineer, Imole Omoniyi, has been sentenced to three years in prison by an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing and damaging Air Conditioner compressors and other items worth N150,000.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. Damilola Sekoni, gave the ruling after Omoniyi pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and malicious damage.
Sekoni sentenced the convict to two years and one year in jail on counts one and two respectively, with an option of fine.
He ruled that the jail term should run concurrently.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, D..S. Msonter-Shagba, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 9, at about 11am, at Stella Maris College, Okitipupa, Ondo State.
She said Omoniyi unlawfully entered the house of one Seyi Odunwole and stole two Air Conditional compressors, two propeller rods and one mechanical tools box all valued at N150,000.
The convict was further alleged to have damaged an Air Conditioner valued at N300,000 belonging to the complainant, Odunwole.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 411 (i) and 390 (9) of the Ondo State Criminal Code, 2006.
Due to the guilty plea of the convict, Msonter-Shagba urged the court to sentence him accordingly.
She added that the defendant is a perpetual criminal and is standing trial in another court for the offence of stealing an iron rod.
The Magistrate accepted Omoniyi’s plea. He convicted and sentenced him, with an option of N300,000 fine, on both counts.
