Ondo State Government is set to clamp down on illegal structures along major roads in Akure the state capital.
The structures according to government constitute environmental nuisance in the state.
General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Authority, Mr Fola Omowole disclosed this on Saturday during while leading a team to monitor the March edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Akure.
According to him, both illegal and abandoned structures should be removed noting that they constitute sources of environmental nuisance.
He explained that structures erected on drainage are not fit to see the light of the day stating that they encourage dirty environment.
He revealed that the Authority will in no time serve owners of illegal structures abetment notice failure of which attracts abetment order obtained from the court.
Omowole while addressing some residents along Cathedral in Akure, stated that it is important that they embrace healthy living by ensuring adequate cleaning of their environment both within and outside their premises.
While also addressing some other residents on Gboyegun street, he called on the people to obey environmental laws in order to prevent outbreak of diseases.
Responding, a resident, Mrs Yetunde Adelayi told the team that a demolished structure on the street has become an eyesore as it has become a refuse dump calling on government to call the owner to order.
The General Manager while addressing some food vendors stressed the need for them to containerise their waste to avoid littering the environment.
Youth Leader on Gboyegun street, Mr Gbenga Fakua stated that the youths engage in community service in areas such as Igboyegun, Ijofi, Egbedi and car street to ensure a healthy environment.
On Eru Oba street, a resident who craved anonymity called on government to put owners of abandoned structures on their toes.
The General Manager while speaking with Journalists shortly after the exercise stressed the need for communities to be responsible to their responsibility in order to maintain healthy environment.
