Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Pastor Femi Agagu has described the distribution of Science, Technology equipment and Mathematics training kits to state public secondary schools as another stepping stone by the present administration towards improving the quality of teaching and learning of the subjects.
He said this during the official commissioning and distribution of procured science laboratory equipment, Mathematics training kits and science/technical equipment produced by Ondo State Science Equipment Centre, OSSECA to selected public secondary schools in Akure.
Agagu who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Dr Olawunmi Ilawole added that it will advance the effective teaching of the subjects.
and enhance students’ performance in external examinations and competitions.
According to him, the students have been representing the state and Nigeria in national and international competitions respectively and have made the state proud by winning laurels.
He appreciated the state government for releasing funds towards ensuring the success of the project and also congratulated the beneficiaries of the project.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Akin Asaniyan disclosed that the state is projecting to turn OSSECA to Aketi Revolutionary Science and Tech Centre where teachers would be trained and in turn and train the students in science and technology.
He said the students of the state have participated in competitions in at least four or five countries and have been excelling.
While appreciating the state government for the gesture, the Principal of Akure High School, Akure, Mrs Susan Fagbemisoye said the equipment will enhance students’performance in the area of science and technology.
She assured that the school will make judicious use of the equipment.
