Estate agent held for N7.5m fraud

A 55-year-old real estate agent, Gbenga Agbaje, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo town, over N7,5million land fraud.

Agbaje was alleged to have obtained the money from one Mr. Tolulope Adelakun, under the pretence of procuring allocation letter for industrial plot situated and lying at Block D at Ondo Housing Estate, Igba.

The accused was said to have committed the offence on April 21, 2020 contrary to and punishable under Sections 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The police prosecutor, Mr Benard Olagbayi,  informed the court that the defendant collected the money from the complainant, but failed to fulfill his promise.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Olagbayi said he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, and applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Lawyer for the accused, A.C Ajakaiye, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2,000,000 with one surety in like sum.

She said the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction, and a civil servant with any level.

She adjourned the case till April 24, 2023 for trial.
