The Erstwhile Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, in Ondo state, Augustine Oloruntogbe has cautioned the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, against its baseless allegations that the past chairmen of the 18 local council areas are still in government.
He enjoined the Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr Peretei Ikantu to withdraw the libelous publication with public apology within 24 hours or be ready to face the law.
Oloruntogbe gave the warning during a press briefing on Thursday to address the allegations of the leading opposition party in the state.
Recall that the state Publicity Secretary of PDP alleged that the immediate past Executive Local Government Chairmen of the 18 councils areas are still in government.
According to the erstwhile chairman: “We wish to inform members of the public to see the report as not only malicious and labelious but as parts of futile attempts by the drowning PDP to soil the image of the past local government chairmen and by extension, the present administration in the state.
“It is on record that as law abiding citizens, all the former LG chairmen legitimately handed over the affairs of the 18 local government areas to the various head of local government administration who have been holding forth since August 30, 2023 in accordance with the extant rules.
“We want to use this opportunity to thank Mr Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for entrenching democratic rules in all the council areas which allows us to serve our people at grassroot level.
“The author of the structurally defective information did not only failed woefully to provide a shred of evidence to support his baseless allegations but equally has no prove of who approved the payment and how much had been paid to the Chairmen.
“We could have ignored his jaundiced report but we have a duty to present the fact before the public so that the right thinking people of Ondo state are not misled by a group of unfortunate politicians who are still leaking their political wounds following their recent fatal political accidents both at home and abroad.
“This deliberate falsehood by Peretei and his cohorts can only be described as a merchant who is selling the sun to buy candles or better still, some set of mischief makers sprigging up mere political gimmicks to seek for cheap publicity“, he stated.
