Ex-convict docked for allegedly stealing money to play Sporting bet

A 25-year-old ex-convict , Joseph Abiola, has been remanded in Segede Correctional Centre by an Ondo Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Oka for allegedly stealing N740,000, to play Sporting bet.
The defendant was brought before the Magistrate, Mrs Omofolarin A.O. on a one-count charge of stealing.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on November 11, 2024, at Titilayo Street, Esso Area, Ondo, in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
The defendant was alleged to have stolen the money from the account number 0807436645, operated by one Joseph Bosede and was later arrested by the police.
The offence contravenes Section 383(2)(a) and punishable under Section 390(6)(9)of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The plea of the defendant was not taken when the charge was read to him.
The prosecutor, Insptector David Ogundola, said the defendant is an ex-convict and he was recently released from Benin prison for the same offence.
He prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody till next date of adjournment for bail consideration.
Magistrate Omofolarin ordered that the defendant be remanded in Correctional centre till date of adjournment for bail consideration.
Omofolarin, adjourned the case till December 5, 2024, for bail consideration and hearing.
