Ex-convict docked over alleged  N400,000 theft

What could have made an ex-convict return to his vomit, was the question  that filled the minds of the audience at an Ondo Magistrates’ Court, last Thursday.

But the 45-year-old accused,  Sunny Williams, who could not bear the shame,  told the court  that he has since turned over a new leaf.

The police had brought him before the court on two – count of conspiracy  and stealing.

The accused and others still at large were alleged of conspiracy,  contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37,Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The accused  was also alleged of stealing nine plasma television valued at N400,000, property of one Akintayo Femi Richard, on March 25, 2018,  at about 5pm, at Southwest hotel, in Ondo city, Ondo, in the Ondo magisterial district.

The prosecution said the offence contravened Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused  pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Benard Olagbayi, requested for a date to enable the police  recover the stolen television and also conclude their investigation.

Lawyer for the accused, Mess Anthony Olagundoye applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.

In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs Bolatito Ajibade granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million with responsible surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case till January 22, 2019 for trail.
