A 44-year old ex-convict, David Akunme, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft.
Akunme, whose residential address was not disclosed, was arraigned by the Ondo State Police Command on a one-count charge of theft.
Police prosecutor, Oniyere Taiwo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 21, 2025.
According to the prosecutor, Akunme allegedly stole a white bag containing a Basaus black power bank valued at N27,000; a small Circle mobile phone valued at N17,000; a Palmpay POS terminal worth N34,000; Peak 123 baby food valued at N8,500; two baby toys valued at N4,000, some passport photographs, and cash totalling N325,000 all amounting to N415,000 belonging to one Ayodeji Bukola.
Oniyere added that the offence contravened Sections 383(2a) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
However, the plea of the defendant was not taken.
The prosecutor further informed the court that three witnesses would testify in the case, two of whom were already present.
He requested time to review the case file and prepare for trial.
Defence counsel, O. I. Tiwo, did not oppose the request but pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on lenient terms, promising that his client would not jump bail and would provide credible sureties.
In her ruling, Magistrate Olusola Olujobi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N650,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction, provide an affidavit of means and submit two passport photographs.
However, Akunme failed to meet the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned till November 12, 2025, for further hearing.
