A 44-year old ex-convict, David Akunme, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft.
Akunme, whose residential address was not disclosed, was arraigned by the Ondo State Police Command on a one-count charge of theft.
Police prosecutor, Oniyere Taiwo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 21, 2025.
According to the prosecutor, Akunme allegedly stole a white bag containing a Basaus black power bank valued at ₦27,000, a small Circle mobile phone valued at ₦17,000, a Palmpay POS terminal worth ₦34,000, Peak 123 baby food valued at ₦8,500, two baby toys valued at ₦4,000, some passport photographs, and cash totalling ₦325,000 all amounting to ₦415,000 belonging to one Ayodeji Bukola.
Oniyere added that the offence contravened Sections 383(2a) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
However, the plea of the defendant was not taken.
The prosecutor further informed the court that three witnesses would testify in the case, two of whom were already present.
He requested time to review the case file and prepare for trial.
Defence counsel, O. I. Tiwo, did not oppose the request but pleaded with the court to grant bail on lenient terms, assuring that his client would not jump bail and would provide credible sureties.
In her ruling, Magistrate Olusola Olujobi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦650,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction, provide an affidavit of means and submit two passport photographs.
However, Akunme failed to meet the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned till November 12, 2025, for further hearing.
