Ex-Edo NLC Chairman dies after alleged Dispute with Police officers
Kaduna Eboigbodin, a former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State, has died following a reported altercation with police officers.
The incident occurred on Monday at a checkpoint along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Edo, Moses Yamu, confirmed the development and announced that the command had initiated an investigation into the matter.
“The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police has received with great concern news of the death of Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin, former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State, allegedly due to police unprofessional conduct,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, Umoru P. Ozigi, expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late labour leader.
“The Commissioner of Police… wishes to use this medium to commiserate with the widow, family, friends, and associates of the deceased over the loss and pray for the repose of his soul,” the statement added.
Ozigi also highlighted the strong ties between the police, civil society organisations, and labour unions in the state. He assured the public that a thorough investigation into the incident had been ordered.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to the rule of law, pledging that justice would be served in the matter.
