The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) will rue their missed goal-scoring chances in a novelty match played against the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) at the Ijapo Housing field, Akure.
The novelty match, was played between both women professional bodies as part of activities marking the NAWOJ Week, ended in a goalless draw.
NAWOJ were unable to convert a penalty opportunity early in the game after a FIDA player handled the ball inside the 18-yard box.
Efforts to put the ball in the net were unsuccessful as both teams maintained strong defensive play.
The entertaining novelty game ended in a barren draw.
NAWOJ Chairperson, Tola Gbadamosi, commended both teams for turning out for the game.
Gbadamosi noted that it is good for women to rally together, adding that exercise is essential for healthy living.
She said: “It was fun all through. We played our hearts out to ensure we defeated our visitors, but they were resilient in their defence.
“We pressed them hard with eyes on goal, but they denied us from scoring. Our pressing paid off early in the game; unfortunately, we missed the opportunity to score from the penalty awarded to us.”
“We really enjoyed ourselves. We are sending a message out there that our women are not pushovers when it comes to sports.”
